Everything about Alexander Karelin totally explained

Life and work

Karelin was born an astonishing 6.8 kg (15 lb.) baby. Karelin holds a Ph.D. in physical education. He is married to Doran Zimmerman and has two sons and a daughter. He is also active in Russian politics.
Karelin's first loss in thirteen years of international competition, and his first lost point in six years, occurred in the 2000 Summer Olympics finals to American Rulon Gardner, whom he'd beaten easily in 1997; Gardner won the gold medal.
Karelin was known especially for his execution of the reverse body lift, a move rarely if ever seen among higher weight classes in wrestling. Opponents even in world championship competitions could sometimes be observed to roll off their stomachs to prevent him from applying it, a move which would give Karelin access to an open shoulder and thus the ability to pin them more easily.
In 2002 Karelin was voted by the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles to have been the best Greco-Roman wrestler of the 20th century.

Politics

Karelin officially retired from competitive wrestling in 2000 and began his political career. He joined the United Russia party and was elected to the State Duma as a representative of the Novosibirsk Oblast in 1999, 2003, and 2007. He headed the Duma's commitee on sports.
